This qualification aims to broaden access to higher education and improve career prospects of those individuals who undertake them.

Our HNC in Healthcare Practice (Level 4) course is recognised by the University of Wolverhampton to meet entry requirements towards a potential start on an Adult Nursing degree, subject to passing 1st Year, placement availability and meeting standard eligibility criteria for the course.

Structure of the Healthcare Programme for the Academic Year (Year 1)

The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Healthcare Practice for England requires at least 225 hours of work experience/placement in health and/or social care settings and a Professional Learning and Development portfolio (PLAD), including reflective accounts, to be completed.

Structure of the Healthcare Programme for the Academic Year (Year 2)

The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Healthcare Practice for England requires at least 450 hours of work experience/placement in health and/or social care settings and a Professional Learning and Development portfolio (PLAD), including reflective accounts, to be completed over the two year period of the qualification.

Please note we work on a case-to-case basis for admission. Even if you are not eligible for the Level 4 course, we may offer you a lower level course in care to get you started! (This is subject to availability).

Preferred candidates may have ONE or ALL of:

• >  A Level 3 (NVQ/BTEC, etc) qualification in Health and Social Care or a similar or related subject
• >  A Level 1 or Level 2 (NVQ/BTEC, etc) qualification in Health and Social Care
• >  2 years or more of work experience in the care sector

• >  GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above), OR Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths

Where applicants do not have a formal qualification to demonstrate capability in English, they will be required to undertake the college’s English Language test before an offer of a place on a course is made. Judgement of their capability in spoken English may be assessed by the Senior Administrator at the interview.

Students enrolling for this course must be employed or willing to find 225 hours of voluntary/employed work experience in the health and social care sector whilst on the course.

We welcome applications from students 19+ who do not match the standard entry requirements but who can demonstrate; willingness and commitment to studying this subject at university level, and who can evidence academic, professional or vocational experience in a related field.

Tuition Fee loan and Maintenance Loan for living costs are available for this course.

What is a Tuition Fee loan?
A Tuition Fee Loan helps you to pay for your course. New full-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan of up to £9,000 to cover the cost of tuition fees. The amount you can get doesn’t depend on your household income.

The maximum Tuition Fee Loan available to new students starting courses with private universities and colleges is £7,000. However, you’ll be able to apply for the same Maintenance Loan as other full-time students.

The tuition fee for the HNC in Healthcare Practice course is £7000. If you do not wish to pay your tuition fees through Student Finance, please contact us.

What’s a Maintenance Loan?
A Maintenance Loan helps towards your living costs, such as food, rent and books.

The amount you can borrow depends on your household income, your course and where you live and study.

Per Academic Season

If you’re 60 or over on the first day of the first academic year of your course you can apply for up to £4,106 in 2022/2023 academic year or £4,221 in 2023/2024 academic year.

Repayments

Repayments are based on your future income, not what you borrow. You won’t repay your loan until you’ve left university and your income is over a certain amount.
