"I would advise anyone doing a HNC, they can find a pathway out after this course in the college. You can do a University Degree or even do better than me, because everyone is an individual. "

My circumstances were kind of challenging before I joined the College. I was stuck working in a nursing home doing the same thing - getting minimum wage, no respect and being blamed for things because I didn't know anything.
One of my friends suggested I join a college so I could progress myself. I wanted to go to university straight away, but they wouldn't accept just my Level 3 qualifications [alone]. I did one year [of] (Level 4) Healthcare Practice with City College.
I applied for a place in university with UCAS and I finally got a place to do Adult Nursing [at] Birmingham City University.
My experience at City College helped me so much on how to put myself together, how to build up my confidence and to learn [the] policies and procedures on how to do things. I even managed to get [better] skills in I.T., which weren't good before!
I would advise everyone to do the course. If I can do it, you can do it as well. It builds your confidence and learning skills. You need good communication skills; if you need any help at all, go to the lecturers. I've learnt the importance of being polite and being yourself - it can help you to achieve many things.
At the moment I'm about to finish my degree in Adult Nursing, and will soon be a free person.
I would advise anyone [to do a] HNC, you can find a pathway out after this course with the College. You can end up doing a degree, or even do better than me because everyone is an individual!
It was a journey for me, but I managed to achieve it.
